Chinese high-tech company RoymaTech opens branch in Hanover - the perfect location.
Suzhou in eastern China is around 8,500 kilometers away from Hanover as the crow flies - yet the Chinese company RoymaTech has decided to open a branch in Hanover in addition to its headquarters in Suzhou and its second factory in Beijing. Since February of this year, RoymaTech, which specializes in the development and production of industrial X-ray systems for quality assurance in production, has been based in the Technology Centre in Hanover Science Park. A decisive reason for the choice of location - special X-ray tubes, which were invented in Hanover and are used worldwide. The move was supported by hannoverimpuls.
In addition to X-ray systems, RoymaTech also offers comprehensive X-ray inspection systems for non-destructive testing (NDT) in various industries, including the battery industry, aerospace, automotive and electronics. These systems enable precise and fast inspections, for example in the quality control of battery production, and thus make an important contribution to the safety of batteries for e-mobility. The company has already been successful on the Chinese market for ten years - and together with its customers has developed a technology for testing batteries that is considered a technological innovation throughout Europe; in China, RoymaTech's devices are already in operation at BYD, CATL, EVE, Gotion and SVOLT. The German branch was founded in August 2023 and has been active in the technology center since February 2024. Since August of this year, RoymaTech has also been able to win ElevenEs, the first European battery manufacturer, as a customer with its test systems.
Adrian de Riz, you are the Managing Director of RoymaTech Germany - why did your company choose Hanover as its location in Germany?
Hanover is the birthplace of the "open microfocus tube", a special X-ray tube for high-resolution imaging in diagnostics and materials testing. This technology was developed in Hanover in the 1980s - and the city is still a leading location for this technology today. In addition, Hanover offers ideal proximity to potential customers, such as Volkswagen and its battery company PowerCo. Furthermore, we are already working together with the Institute of Production Engineering and Instrumentation (IPeG) at Leibniz University, where our first machine in Europe is on loan and is used for scanning samples.
How did hannoverimpuls help with the relocation?
With the help of hannoverimpuls, we were able to find our premises in the Technology Center. Our managing director from China visited us, and together we also visited the PZH, where our prototype machine is now located. We are pursuing three strategic goals: cooperation with research, intensifying contacts with our suppliers and proximity to our customers - all of which are available in Hanover.
What experiences have you had and what tips would you give other companies?
The business case has to fit 100 percent. We wouldn't have chosen Hanover if the city wasn't a pioneer in X-ray technology - and Hanover is also a world leader in laser technology. There are currently two of us here, but we want to build up a team of five employees by the end of the year. Successful establishment depends on sales of our own products, and we are well on the way - we have just signed an important contract with a European battery manufacturer, which is very motivating!
What are your next goals?
We want to attract young talent to our company and be confident of further growth - that comes when the figures are right. With our machine in Hanover, we also offer services for start-ups and SMEs. Our offering is our ticket to the market; now it's up to us to make our brand better known. When it comes to networking, we continue to rely on the support of the business development agency. hannoverimpuls is a valuable door opener for us.
Peter Eisenschmidt, Head of Internationalization at hannoverimpuls, on RoymaTech:
"RoymaTech is known in the industry for its affordable yet high-quality products. There was already extensive cooperation with partners from Hanover and Germany in the run-up to the establishment of the company. This means that RoymaTech's products also work so well thanks to the German components. The company's first system is installed at the PZH Garbsen and is used there for research purposes. All in all, the conditions here are ideal for a successful market entry."
